Dave & Marlene have been called to make their home amidst
the Pine-Belt of Southern Mississippi. It is here that they enjoy mild winters and hot humid summers and a wonderfully
long gardening season! Life in the Colburn family is captured as Momma and Dadda sit out on their back patio in the
cool of the evening watching nearly 2 year old Elliott play with a watering can in the fountain and squat to watch the
busy lives of fire ants ever relocating in their back yard. Birding from the breakfast table includes
father and son both holding binoculars ("nocks") up to their eyes to marvel at God's beautiful small creatures in
backyard trees. What a joy it is to share baby birds in a nest in the front yard and to share the excitement of discovering
a butterfly on flowers by the front door. Gardening a large plot in the backyard has added a new dimension to teaching
Elliott about God's power to plant good seeds of love, kindness, patience, and more in a little boys heart. It
also includes much guidance as to making sure he doesn't step on the bean plant that is poking its head up out of
the soft dirt.
Life
working at a boarding academy is fulfilling, very busy, and full of surprises. Dave keeps busy managing finances, cutting
costs, and thrills at realizing savings when able. Marlene loves her role as Momma to a busy little boy who is full
of curiosity and energy. Along with their work and music ministry, the Colburns love to travel and have been blessed
to experience the beauties of many places throughout the United States and abroad. Often in conjunction with concert
tours, Dave and Marlene are able to take extra time to visit National Parks, historic monuments, and marvel at the diversity
of the world God has created for us. Despite the effects of sin on a perfect creation, the beauties of God's creation are
still amazing to behold. Romans 1:20 tells us, "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without
excuse."
